•  Thrive from the Ground Up is a community-based learning space that shows what’s possible in a small city backyard. Operated by Speak Into the Light Farms, the program helps residents learn how to grow fruits and vegetables, collect rainwater, compost, and care for hens and bees—all within city zoning guidelines. Through raised garden beds, a children’s STEM zone, and homesteading workshops , we offer a hands-on way to learn about food, sustainability, and self-reliance in everyday life. 

As families look for healthier food options and meaningful ways to connect with nature, this kind of space offers simple, practical solutions. Thrive from the Ground Up helps neighbors build skills, confidence, and community while making the most of the space they have. It’s not just about gardening—it’s about creating a place where learning, growing, and caring for the environment all come together.

Thrive from the Ground Up is an urban homestead program powered by Speak Into The Light Urban Farm. Each year, we welcome 10 dedicated Homestead Ambassadors who lead by example in their communities. Our team also includes contracted industry experts who teach monthly hands-on workshops in gardening, livestock care, food preservation, and sustainable living — guiding participants every step of the way from setup to harvest.
